Storms and sun
Weather was a mix. Started out under dark clouds, broke to Sun, back to dark clouds and rain again. In between, exercising my muse.
There was a particular, spectacular patch of red aspen I wanted to photograph, but the light failed. Not only that, but I just couldn't find a pleasing composition to photograph. Alas, a raw 'straight' photo would have had everyone questioning my sanity.
Two guys fishing. In a sea of yellow. Spotted on the side of the road ... did a quick 180 to capture them.
Speaking of the road, looking back from the 'fishing' spot.
Just slightly before the main image of this blog post, I did another screaming 180. Cottonwoods and rocks. The top image is better (red foliage in foreground), but this was what first caught me. Loud, though. Lots of traffic.
No fishermen here.
Around Alamosa, the view to the west ... a storm was dropping water on an eastern-facing slope. If you look closely, you can see the bands of yellow aspen behind the curtains of virga and rain. The lighting was difficult. This is just a first shred development, may look different later.
There are Amish in Colorado. I cycled the Covered Bridge Metric Century many times in Pennsylvania Dutch Country, but I'd never heard tell of Amish in John Denver's Rocky Mountain High. Well, just in the plains short of Rocky Mountain High, you'll find them thriving.
Final shot of the day, as the sun got close to setting. It played hide and seek with clouds and landscape. Just south of Antonito ... mostly flat in this area. But the clouds - and Moon, I know you spotted it - begged a road snap. Hope you enjoyed all of these!
